Tips for buying a Quality Circular Saw

A circular saw is a utilitarian workhorse and a useful addition to the toolkit of DIYers. Its most common function is to make cuts in a straight line on pieces of lumber. A circular saw is a tool for cutting many materials such as wood, masonry, plastic, or metal and may be hand-held or mounted to a machine. In woodworking the term "circular saw" refers specifically to the hand-held type and the table saw and chop saw are other common forms of circular saws. Knowing its parts makes learning how to use a circular saw easier.

  • Handle and power trigger – While holding the handle to push the saw forward, squeeze the trigger to start the blade; release it to stop sawing.

  • Trigger lock switch – This safety feature prevents the saw from being turned on if the trigger is accidentally squeezed. Deactivate it with your thumb and simultaneously pull the trigger to start the motor.

  • Blade guard – A retractable guard covers the circular saw blade when it isn’t operating. When the saw is lined up and ready to cut, the guard is lifted using a tab on its side.

  • Shoe – Sometimes called the base of the saw, this is the metal rectangle that rests on top of the material being cut.

Types of Circular Saw

There are many types of Circular Saws. According to your need, you can check some types here and decide to buy the one you want.

Corded Circular Saw: It generates a tremendous amount of power, which can perform even the toughest cutting jobs at ease. Cordless circular saws with their brute force top their counterpart the cordless ones easily. You can use cordless circular saws to rip large timbers those you can’t move due to their heavyweight. As you can move it near to your workplace, it quickens your job.

Hypoid Circular Saw : A hypoid gear is a special type of spiral bevel gear whose axis is not in-line with the axis of meshing gear. As the gears are sealed in an oil bath, no oil changes ever needed. This effectively makes the saw maintenance free.

Cold Saw: Cold Saw are mainly designed to cut different metals with pinpoint precision. The secret of such accuracy is dependent upon two features :

1)The large diameter of the blade.

2)The slow rotation, along with the linear feed.

Tips for which quality of Circular Saw to buy:

That depends on what you’re using it for. Are you framing houses, or building bookshelves and cabinets?

It depends on a few things.

If you want to cut large sheets, such as plywood, it is easier with a table saw, but can be done with a circular saw. A circular saw takes up a lot less room, you can throw it in a closet when not using it. The circular saw for the most part will be much cheaper.

Note that if you must use a Skill Saw for dimension work you should carefully adjust the base plate so that its guide edge is precisely parallel to the blade. It frequently is not. Moreover, the blade depth should be adjusted so that it is just slightly greater than the thickness of the piece being cut. Too much blade exposure will produce drag that can cause the saw to veer off of course.
