Choose the best Pump with these tips

We need water to stay alive But we also need water for many other uses like bathing, washing clothes and utensils, water for generating electricity i,e.hydroelectricity etc. Have you ever thought, how does water reach to our houses. In some earlier blogs, you got to know about how power supply helps in working of parts in devices. Here, its same. We will here know how Pump helps to generate Water Supply to our houses or to industries.

A pump is a device which moves fluids by mechanical action, from one place to the other. It is, essentially, the earliest form of machine, dating back to ancient Egypt. Today, the pump is used for irrigation, water supply, gasoline supply, air conditioning systems, refrigeration (usually called a compressor), chemical movement, sewage movement, flood control, marine services, etc. Because of the wide variety of applications, pumps have a plethora of shapes and sizes: from very large to very small, from handling gas to handling liquid, from high pressure to low pressure, and from high volume to low volume.

They work by some mechanism and consume energy to perform mechanical work.

Before buying anything one should have the perfect or some knowledge about any product. So, here are some types of Pumps:

There are many types of pumps :

Rotodynamic Pump: Under this pump there are many more pumps.

  • Centrifugal Pump

  • Axial Pump

  • Mixed Pump

  • Turbine Pump

Rotodynamic pumps cause continuous flow, and the flow rate and discharge pressure are effectively constant with time. Dynamic action of the fluid movement is due to the mechanical energy imparted into the system by a rotating element.

Positive Displacement Pump: Further in this, it's divided into 2 more types:

  • Rotatory type

  • Reciprocating type

They both are further divides into more.

Positive displacement pumps or PD pumps are one kind of pump and the designing of these pumps can be done long before centrifugal pumps. The fluid is positively moved from a set quantity container. These pumps are competent in expanding high pressures while working at little suction forces. These pumps are commonly called as constant volume pumps.

Tips before buying the best pump

  • Efficiency: Higher the efficiency, high energy saving. It will also reduce the harmful effects to CO2 emissions. Helps in reducing cost of energy bills.

  • Pump Inlet Condition:You don’t want to starve a pump. System Net Positive Suction Head (NPSH) available is calculated by knowing pump inlet pressure and liquid vapor pressure. Always make sure NPSHA exceeds pump Net Positive Suction Head (NPSH) required.

  • Rate and Pressure of Flow:Your total volume and knowing how much time you have to move the fluid will determine flow rate. Pump differential pressure can be calculated by knowing pipe size (length & fittings), static lifts, and system equipment (filters, valves, etc.) friction losses.

  • Software Tools: Most pump manufacturers have developed software or Web-based tools to assist in the pump selection process. Pump purchasers enter their fluid properties and system requirements to obtain a listing of suitable pumps. Software tools that allow you to evaluate and compare operating costs are available from private vendors.
